Why should you use jars to cure herbs?
Would you work hard to cultivate a complex and unique grapevine with the intention of making fine wine and then after harvesting decide to drink the grape juice without allowing it to age? No, you wouldn’t do that. The curing process will turn your harvested herbs into the fine wine you’ve been dreaming about for months!
Don’t skip the curing process — it is just as important as the vegetative and flowering stages! Some growers completely skip this step, but those who take the curing process seriously will tell you it holds equal importance to any other part of the cultivation process.
When left uncured, your dried herb(s) will never achieve their peak potency and quality. Curing won't fix all of the mistakes you may have made during the growing cycle, but if you started with great genetics and you’ve taken care of your plants properly during their life, then curing is what will make the difference between “just okay” and trophy-worthy buds.
If you have already harvested your plants, or if you are getting ready to, then you need a container to properly store and cure your crop. However, some containers are better than others for this stage in your plant’s life.
Some growers will drop a hygrometer inside the mason jar to monitor humidity levels, but this doesn't provide an accurate measurement because the hygrometer is touching the plant material inside which can significantly affect the humidity % and register a relative humidity percentage that isn't entirely accurate.
